About us

MWE started as a commercial, industrial, traffic signal and street light maintenance contractor, providing services on a routine and emergency basis.  MWE has maintenance agreements with local municipalities in Northwest Indiana, which have been modified and updated and are used by the Indiana Department of Transportation.  MWE currently provides traffic signal maintenance throughout Northwest Indiana, and to Central Indiana through its Indianapolis office.  MWE is the lighting maintenance contractor for the majority of Indiana DOT districts working throughout the State.  MWE has also worked for one of the largest suppliers of electricity in the State of Indiana.  MWE supplied the utility with maintenance, repair, and new installation of lighting systems for their entire service area. 

KEY PERSONNEL

Allen R. Brodbeck: President, Midwestern Electric, Inc. and Transportation Utilities, Inc.  Prior to joining MWE, Mr. Brodbeck was Senior Vice President and in charge of all construction in 11 states and off-shore for Continental Waste Industries, Inc. Mr. Brodbeck began a 40  year construction career in 1970 working for Western Electric Company in Illinois, where he was in charge of complex field installations of upgraded telecommunications, switching and power functions for both Illinois Bell Telephone Company and AT&T.  He left the company in 1973 to join Walsh Construction where he served as a Supervisor for construction of the LaSalle County Nuclear Power Plant for Commonwealth Edison Company in Illinois.

Thomas A. Volini: Board Chairman, President and CEO of Town & Country Utilities, Inc. and Vice President of Midwestern Electric, Inc.  Prior to 1980, he operated his own real estate development and construction company throughout Northern Illinois, was briefly engaged in the private practice of law and held various high-level planning positions with two city departments in the Administrative Office of the Mayor of the City of Chicago. Mr. Volini received his bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame and a law degree from Loyola University of Chicago.

Raymond B. Russell: General Manager, is experienced in industrial electrical applications as well as traffic lighting and signals.  Mr. Russell holds three IMSA certificates, including Level I & II Signal Technician. Mr Russell directs all construction and maintenance involving traffic. He is also responsible for keeping MWE service and installation personnel trained on current maintenance and installation procedures. He brings a strong and varied career in construction from his time in Europe, working for firms such as Siemens, M.A.N and Nolan's. He studied project management and construction technology at the Calumet campus of Purdue University and is a current member of LU 1393.

Ryan Rentschler: Senior Project Manager in charge of commercial and industrial projects for MWE. Mr. Rentschler has been in the electrical construction business for over 10 years, having completed his apprenticeship as a Journeyman Inside Wireman at LU 697. Presently, Mr. Rentschler's responsibilities include estimating, and the installation and maintenance of major commercial, industrial and governmental projects. His education includes Supervision and Management Training Classes as well as an Associates Degree in Industrial Electronics from Ivy Tech State College.

Scott D. Richardson: Serves as Senior Technician for the East Chicago Traffic Division at MWE.  He has been serving as an Estimator Assistant, Purchasing Agent, Signal Technician, Lighting Technician and now direct Supervisor of Signal Maintenance.  He is a current member of LU 1393.

Dean Balazs: Serves as Division Manager, Chief Estimator, Project Manager and Purchasing Agent of Midwestern Electric, Inc. in Indianapolis.  He has been in the electrical construction business for over 25 years and is a current member of LU 1393.

Ryan K. Lepper: Serves as Assistant General Manager of the MWE Indianapolis office. He has been with MWE for eight years serving in various capacities including Apprentice Electrician, Journeyman Wireman, Traffic Signal Technician and Project Manager.  He is a current member of LU 1393.

Jacob Ewing: Serves as Senior Project Manager for all outside construction. Mr Ewing is a LU 1393 Journeyman Wireman. He has occupied various positions in his 8 year career with MWE utilizing his Navy training in Electronics.
